On June 12th 2012 we got married. It was an incredible day!
Now that our honeymoon is behind us, I can look back on a fantastic period in our lives; a year in which I was happily busy planning our fabulous vintage wedding.
That all that planning finally came together in a truly magnificent day gave Kasper and me a magical feeling!
Our wedding took place at just one location… in the dreamlike beauty of my in-law's garden. So that was where the day began for the two of us. Although the weather forecast for 12 June was rain, rain and more rain, we had clear blue skies without the slightest drizzle. Such luck! While my haar en make-up parents and girlfriends were running around putting the finishing touches on the decorations. It's true I had arranged everything up to the smallest detail ... ;-) Happily we could also count on our amazing master of ceremonies, Vivian! Without the least bit of stress she made sure everything turned out just the way we had intended.
The photographers Mon et Mine arrived, and immediately began capturing all the details. While I was sitting in front of the mirror I saw my wedding gown being carried outside. “Would you mind if we just hang this in the willow tree for a second, I think it will look really good in the pictures!” our photographer Hermine asked us. Thinking of my precious dress dangling high from the tree above the pond did worry me somewhat, but the beautiful photos we received certainly made it worth it!
Meanwhile Kasper changed into his wedding suit at the neighbours’ house. When at midday we were both ready it was time for the so-called first look. On a lovely country road next to my in-laws’ house Kasper was waiting for me in his ravishing suit. Slowly I walked up to him, touched his shoulder and… Wow!! We saw each other for the first time on our big day. It was a truly heart-warming moment.
After that we all went to have some sandwiches, after which we were ready for our first photoshoot of the day. We really felt completely relaxed with these photographers. We had already done an engagement shoot with them the previous summer, and felt quite at home in front of the camera. ;;-) For this first photoshoot I had picked out a really nice old bench, which we placed in the middle of a meadow, in the tall grass. The photos turned out just the way I had pictured them in my mind!
At 2 o’clock our guests arrived. And they all looked so amazing! Everyone had really done an excellent job of interpreting the vintage dress code in their own way. At the entrance the guests could choose a corsage we had made ourselves, and put their fingerprint in our fingerprint guest book. Fifteen minutes later we arrived in our 1958 Chevrolet Corvette. This car suited our theme perfectly. We felt like film stars from the 50s as we arrived and all our guests welcomed us so enthusiastically!
At 3 o’clock it was finally time for the ceremony to begin. We were both rather nervous after all! The ceremony is of course what it is all about on that day, you officially become husband and wife. When the music started playing the guests were already seated, and Kasper was waiting for me down by the pond. My mother gave me away, and then the ceremony could begin. The wedding official gave a beautiful speech, and Kasper’s parents, my mother and my brother also recited some inspiring pieces. And then, as icing on the cake, Kasper surprised me by singing a song for me, accompanied by his guitar! At that point it was hard for me to hold back the tears…
When we finally exchanged vows, and the documents were signed, the music swelled again and we walked back to the house through a shower of confetti. There a glass of champagne and a homemade (what else?!) macaron awaited us!
After this we took a few great photos of ourselves with our friends, on that same bench in the field.
Finally it was time to seat ourselves at the picnic tables and to start dinner. We had arranged a picnic basket for each of the tables with all sorts of delicacies, so that the guests could choose whatever they fancied. Our friends could get their own drinks from our lemonade dispensers, and for dessert we cut the wedding cake!
After dinner there was enough time for a second photoshoot, and the guests had fun playing a game of boules or croquet. During this second shoot we were able to get some amazing photos with, in, around and on the Corvette! We put on our sunglasses, and Kasper put on his second suit and I put on my leather jacket. This resulted in some brilliant photos!
When we returned home our evening guests arrived and the party could begin! I quickly changed into my party dress and then we were ready to rock and roll. At the end of the party we treated our guests to an unexpected display of fireworks!
My husband and I can look back on a truly magical day, surrounded by the people who are dearest to us. It was a day in which I could pour all of my creativity, so that our wedding really became a reflection of our style and who we are as a couple. And that was exactly how we wanted it!
